Hoosier Trapper Supply/ Charlie Masheck is a receiving agent for North American Fur Auctions.
For those of you that haven't shipped before or the idea of shipping is new to you - this is the way it works.
Bring your fur to our shop or meet us at one of the stops on our route. We will write you a receipt for the type and quantity of fur that you have. We will take care of the transfer of your fur to North American Fur Auctions (NAFA). Each piece of your fur will be bar coded - the bar code numbers used on your fur is how your fur is tracked through the sale process - that is how they keep track of who owns what. NAFA, depending on the year will have 3-5 sales. Generally, 2 weeks after the sale you will receive your check. NAFA charges an 11% commission to sell your fur - obviously it is in everyone's best interest for them to sell your fur for the most that they can. Fur that doesn't sell is offered on the next sale. NAFA does not charge a storage fee for unsold fur. However, once your fur is shipped you cannot receive it back.
NAFA sells directly to fur coat manufactures and those directly involved in the end use of fur. In my view, if you take a 5 year average (selling your fur for 5 years/seasons on the auction) you will not beat the prices received.
NAFA can only accept finished fur, that is fur that has been properly: skinned, fleshed and dried. If you are unable to handle your fur - we do have people that can put up for fur you - this will enable you to take advantage of selling your fur on the NAFA auctions.
